The CVS Network covers the whole of Scotland, providing services in urban, rural and island environments. The main functions of a CVS are:
· Direct capacity building support to community and voluntary organisations
· A catalyst for effective engagement between the community and voluntary sector and the local decision-making and planning structures.
Across the Network, local CVS also deliver a range of services to meet local need beyond the core work including projects that tackle local transport inadequacies, reduce social isolation and increase the employability of local people.
In supporting the local Sector, CVS provide services:
· To facilitate the provision of start-up support, including advice on legal structures, governance and recruitment, HR
· To secure much needed funding
· To provide developmental support including one-to-one support, training, health checks.
The CVS Network currently represents the interests of community and voluntary organisations on a wide range of forums, including Community Planning Partnerships, Community Health Partnerships and Local Social Economy Partnerships.
In each of their operating areas, CVS are valued and recognised as the local development and support agency for the Third Sector. Stakeholders and customers range from informal community groups through to flourishing social enterprises operating regionally and nationally.
Third Sector Interfaces
Third Sector Interfaces are currently being developed across Scotland. After March 2011 each local authority area will have an Interface, and all CVS will be part of them. These Interfaces will vary in legal form but will all fulfil four functions:
· Support to voluntary organisations operating in the area, both local and those national organisations that deliver services at the local level
· Support to and promotion of volunteering
· Support and development of social enterprise
· Connection between the Community Planning Partnership and the Third Sector
